The one thing we knew we needed when we renovated our kitchen was more seating room. We have three kids who often have friends over, we tend to, like a lot of busy families eat and run. We needed a place where we could put kitchen counter stools in our kitchen. So we decided when we renovated our kitchen to add a very large kitchen island where we could put five swivel stools for our family and friends.
When we purchased our kitchen stools we looked for styles that would enhance our Tuscan themed kitchen. We were amazed at how many different ones there were. We found wrought iron stools, wooden stools and upholstered stools. Most stools with upholstery come with a variety of fabric choices.

We knew that since the kids were going to be using the stools they couldn't be too heavy for them to handle and we wanted to make sure that the feet wouldn't scratch our ceramic kitchen floor. When we planned the kitchen island we made sure that we had between 10" and 13" of space between the seat and the bottom of the counter. This is the space needed for comfortable seating.
When you go online and look at kitchen counter stools and bar stools you can buy them by height, 18 inch, 24-28 inch, 29-34 inch and 34-36 inch. You'll also find a choice of metal, wood and swivel stools. You'll find leather, rattan, chrome/vinyl, stainless steel and rush seats. You'll find stools that are backless, stackable and stools with arms. You can choose from counter height and standard height and even extra tall styles.

Although they were a southwestern style they went perfectly in our home. We like their rustic appearance and the fact that they are upholstered and swivel stools.
